December 1007
Our acting coordinator Robert Sirasch has just completed 5 weeks of offshore marine hydrography off the north west coast of Libya. Using Bruttors CEEDUCER combination depth sounder/gps he had the task of surveying an area 6 km to sea by 8km across for the design of a port.
Any anomalities found by the hydrographic teams were to be finely surveyed by himself and investigated by diving, filming and setting up potentual cultural and archeological investigation sites defined by Lybian and international rules. Submarine Roman ruins, ancient and modern sunken craft are all known to exist in the zone surveyed.
The Port is to be a new duty free zone city being planned by Emmar Properties ( the worlds largest property developer) The port being mainly for large scale recreational craft.
It became a particularly challenging task as the team of surveyors that he had to supervise and work alongside did not show. So it was he and whoever others he could locally mobilize, train and work alongside that had to complete the task.
Fortunately experience , civil engineering/surveying training ,coxswains training, navigation skills using GPS and Buttour training all came together as a impromptu solution to a daunting task. Good arms length support from Buttour was paramount in achieving a sucessfull outcome
Obtaining a GPS trained local master was important and after training him and another in the methods the task was completed well. Shift work was engaged as a strategy to overcome difficulties due to weather windows, Rammadam crew fasting and long daily return trips from port to the site. 24 hour work was broken into suitable shifts to be able to maximise good ocean conditions. The entire task was GPS and Depth sounder orientated and that made night or day irrelevent.
Difficulties included language, weather conditions and a adjustment requirement to be able to come to terms with all. He struggled initially but with time and excellent local moral and marine support was able to achieve.
Skills and experience essential to completing this research were aquired in the most adverse of circumstances and we look forward to its progression.
The ancient Roman port of Liptus Magna was also visited on the last day there -his only day off. The following picture shows what existed nearby 2000 years ago and the project will be a deja vue for this part of Libya with a almost revival of what Rome had nearby 2 millenia ago.
Sustainable Solutions that are progressive in solving issues to do with Commerce, Industry, Employment, Recreation and Protection of Environment on our coasts and boating inlets
OUR MISSION KEYWORDS benign, sustainable, constant monitoring, minimum intevention, self funding, self reliant, not for profit, reliable up-to-date information, understanding, natural process, highly developed skillset, practical, feasible, Non Government, broad community support, quality assured, research based, innovative, imperative, consultative, holistic solutions
"There is what we wish will be, there is what may be and there is what will be."
We attempt to ensure the optimum results/outcomes for all stakeholders, its called good strategy and planning then implementation. This type of solution is to avoid creating more problems in its application.
